FHS 183 – Volunteers

April 29th, 2009

Another great Brooklyn band. I think they were a bit dubious of our latest mini drumkit experiment – leaving the practice pads on. I don’t think we’ll make a habit of it, but it worked out ok. They are heading to Amsterdam this winter, so who knows if they’llĀ  ever find their way back. Let’s hope they do.

Song list:

  1. Fuck My Ghost
  2. Real Man
  3. Feel It
  4. Danger Everywhere You Turn
  5. Stubborn Woman
  6. Recyclin’ Bin
  7. Hoogabooga

FHS 182 – Naked Gods

April 28th, 2009

We’ve had a lot of people pestering us for this one. Naked Gods come from North Carolina, and managed to make our living room sound like a cavern with their incredibly soulful Band-like americana. The last time they were in town, they played to an utterly packed Zuzu. On a monday night, no less. Be sure to help pack the next joint they hit.

Song List:

  1. Slow Dogs
  2. Stranded/Poor
  3. Rick Danko (Was an Honest Man)
  4. Mountain Smashing Song of Joy
  5. Blah Blah Blah
  6. Mother Sun

BiB 74 – Dog Days (4/27-5/2, 2009)

April 27th, 2009

We’ve gotten over our respective flus, colds, and general winter doldrums, and hot damn, it’s nice outside! In celebration, we decided to do one of these shows that we used to do all the time. Featuring You and Your Pointy Ears, Mount Peru, BoomSnake, Metal Feathers, The Goodnight Loving, Thick Shakes, The Woodrow Wilsons, The Accident That Led Me To The World, Christopher Bell, Manchester Orchestra, Winston Audio, Hands and Knees, The First Day of Summer, Bell & the Bees, Gregg Porter, Living Things, Now, Now Every Children, The Hush Now, You Can Be A Wesley, The Sneaks, Prabir and the Substitutes, The Double-Stops, Young and Old, and Bill Trudell.

And hey, check this out. If you’d rather skip through the songs and not listen to us, you can jump on to our Myspace playlist for this episode!

FHS 179 – MEandJOANCOLLINS

Here’s something Boston needs more of: clever and intelligent, yet interminably catchy and danceable pop music. They’ve got a CD release at the Paradise on Friday, 4/17! Yes!!! Be there!!!

Song List:

  1. 5:30 AM
  2. Smoke
  3. Aim
  4. Drive
  5. Reckless
  6. Water
  7. Notes
  8. Vampires

(note: I think these may be the “internal” band abbreviated titles. I’ll check them at home tonight.)

FHS 178 – Coyote Kolb

April 8th, 2009

A bit of the alt-country thing, a dash of Kink-iness (as made abundantly clear by their cover), and a gang of super-talented musicians. Sign us up. They’re playing at PA’s on Saturday the 11th!

Song List:

  1. Big Bucks
  2. Ain’t No Sayin’
  3. Heartland
  4. John Smith
  5. I Don’t Know
  6. Wish Well
  7. Sunny Afternoon (by The Kinks)
  8. Out In The Woods

FHS 177 – Kentucky Nightmare

April 7th, 2009

Bloomington, Indiana’s (yes, confusing, I know) Kentucky Nightmare put up with more wrong turns on their way to the flophouse than any other band we’ve had stop by. On top of that, Tyler lost a tooth. Which was actually pretty cool. It looks like they’re sticking to the home turf for the next few weeks, but be sure to check them out when they’re near you!

Song List:

  1. Moving Pictures
  2. The Bird That Would Not Call
  3. Caroline and I
  4. Rose Hill
  5. Going Back to Lucy
  6. Let’s Get In Love

While you’re at it, watch the Space Ghost Coast to Coast episode that is also their namesake.

FHS 176 – Chris Wilhelm

April 1st, 2009

Chris Wilhelm has a pretty kickass album called This Train’s Not Going Slow, and is the co-star of Faster Than A Fax Machine, a quasi-factual movie about the trials and tribulations of playing music for a living. I think. I haven’t seen it yet. But let’s let the songs have their say.
